Module 3: The End

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference"
- Robert Frost

Here's a special tip: if it's over 90 degrees and you have a weird limited diet restricting you from spices (something you love), do not ever, never, ever go to town with salt otherwise thing swell; things like feet.

My feet were so swollen last week that I did not run again till Thursday plus I had to go back to the running shop and pick up a pair of size 9's. On the bright side, I have a new pair of running shoes in a different model so I can switch back and forth if I want. My first pair is New Balance 758. I have a special connection with those because the last time I officially ran was at the NYC Komen's Race for the Cure in 2000 and I had a pair of those. Actually they were the 751s. Here is some awesome information if you are product specific with New Balance. If you are looking for that model you used a couple of years ago and you can't find them, i.e. 751, just know that every year NB changes the number by one digit however for all intents and purposes it's the same shoe.

Thursday I got home early, it wasn't brutally hot outside and I had my new size 9 NB 760s. I got in, put on my running pants which are really my martial arts pants, tied my laces and hit the road jack. The couple of days rest were good for me because I went out and did module 3 with less internal complaining. I had a little bit of struggle from lazy muscles through the first set of run - walk 90 / 3 min. I came back feeling relatively good about the run.

Saturday was supposed to be extremely hot (which it did not disappoint) so I picked up my cousin for her training earlier than usual. We got to our special spot; a slab of pavement that leads into the sand and is about 30 feet from the ocean. It's really beautiful. I promise to post a picture in the near future. She studied martial arts for 5 years and I studied for about 13 years, so I've been using that as her warm up. I have a bunch of fun equipment so I try to vary it up and bring different things. This week I brought hand targets and paddles. I said to her, "how many jumping jacks do you feel are good to start with?" She goes "how bout 25?" I said "perfect, let's do 25 and count every other one." I'm starting to toughen up the warm up because the runs are going to get really hard as of this week. I'm adding on to her repertoire of movements and giving them numbers. I'll call out different numbers for different movements to make up combinations. We did this for about half hour and hit the pavement once again.

This run was so good that we are graduating to Module 4. We pushed very hard on the 3 minutes and chatted right through it. We also made sure to run with our water bottles. I managed to get sunburn on the top of my head, and I have long hair. I'm going to put on a 'do-rag' to keep my head protected. I forgot about that. I always put a do-rag on under my cycling helmet. Guess it's been a while. The indication that we are ready for Module 4 was that we automatically ran over the last 3 minute segment. Oh - and we didn't just run it, we sprinted it.

See you all at Module 4!
