Thursday in the Park

Thursday evening I came home totally exhausted. I fell asleep on the ferry on my way home from work. I even fell asleep during my 10 minute bus ride back to my place. I almost fell asleep feeding the dog. Sadly enough, yes I did get a sip of coffee for a little boost, dragged my butt through our apartment digging up my running clothes and headed out.

I could have sat down and gave it up to the couch, but I didn't and I'm glad for that because to look at me you would never know that I was going to have one of my best runs yet.

You can't predict the future. You have to just give it your best and see what happens, even when your a little weary.

I got out and started the clock and fell into a brisk walk for my warm up. After about 7 minutes, I placed myself at a specific point in the park and started running module 2 - 90 seconds of running to 2 minutes of brisk walking. It doesn't sound like much and in some ways it's not, but the beautiful thing about this well paced training program is that I can really see an improvement every time I go out. My pace during the 90 seconds gets faster and my stride a little wider each time; therefore I'm traveling a lot further in the 90 seconds than I did the first two times.

End result is one and a half miles in 20 minutes. Let's see if I can get up to 2 miles in 20 minutes by module 3 or 4.

Things I really need to improve on: my warm ups have been really lame. I need to incorporate some basic calisthenics and stretches. The stretching, especially in the hip area, will help to widen my stride and improve on my speed.

Till next time.....
